The Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Peter Amewu, has ordered the Okobeng Mining company to immediately cease operation in the Nzema East Municipality of the Western Region.

The minister gave the order when he discovered that the company was mining close to the Ankobra River.

Amewu, who visited the site, also directed managers of the company report to the ministry in Accra to shed light on how they acquired a prospecting mining license without his knowledge.

“The prospecting license was given to the company three months ago when I was the substantive minister, but how come I do not know about it, when I have to sign before this license is given”, he queried.

NPP denies authorizing Delta Force attack in Ashanti

Published

on

The ruling New Patriotic Party, NPP, in Ashanti Region has denied authorizing the attack carried out by its affiliate vigilantee group, Delta Force on the region’s security coordinator, George Adjei.

The leadership of the party, which condemned the attack, said the development requires the attention of National Security and not the party since the victim of the attack is a government appointee.

Speaking in an interview with 3News, the Regional Secretary of the NPP, Sam Pyne said: “It is not a party matter because it is not a party appointment. The person was appointed by the president to work for the nation Ghana. He wasn’t appointed to be an NPP officer. The group that went there was not authorised by the party to do that. The national security that is supposed to deal with that matter should deal with it. I condemn that action by the group but national security should take it up.

“I’m going to have a discussion with leaders of the group and also the Regional Security Council are going to meet on that too,” he said.
