NPP constituency chairman in police net for assaulting officer

The Amasaman Divisional Police has arrested the Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, NPP, in the Trobu Constituency, Kwame Ofosu Adjei, for assaulting a police officer.

The police officer, who was on duty at the Pobiman Tollbooth, was reportedly attacked by Adjei after he prevented him from gaining access to the office of the Supervisor of the tollbooth on the Accra-Nsawam highway.

Ofosu Adjei was said to have stormed the tollbooth on Tuesday morning demanding to see the supervisor, Madam Emelia Ocloo, a request the police officer turned down due to recent takeover of tollbooths and public toilets in parts of the country by elements of the NPP.

The refusal by the police officer led to a scuffle between them, with the policeman calling for reinforcement.

However, a member of the NPP in the constituency, Samuel Joe Lartey, in an interview with TV3, said the constituency branch of the NPP did not go to the tollbooth to take it over but to prevent persons who hold themselves up as members of Invisible Forces from taking over the facility.
