Gun shots fired at NPP constituency meeting over choice of MCE

A meeting of the ruling New Patriotic Party, NPP, constituency general meeting in Ledzokuku constituency ended abruptly after after gun shots were fired repeatedly.

According to reports, things degenerated after members engaged themselves in bitter confrontation over the choice of who becomes the Municipal Chief Executive, MCE.

Confusion ensued after a group of party supporters who are campaigning for the Constituency Youth Organizer, Dennis Tetteh, to be appointed the Municipal Chief Executive allegedly tried to attack the Member of Parliament for the area, Dr Okoe Boye, whom they allege is against the Tetteh’s efforts at becoming the MCE.

With the confusion, a party member, said to be sympathetic to the MP, reportedly fired warning shots in an attempt to ward off the attackers.

Confirming the incidence, Okoe Boye said though he heard sounds of what was thought to be gunshots, he could not confirm if it was.

He was however quick to declare that he has no preference on who becomes the MCE, adding that he would work with whoever emerges the political head of Lezdokuku.
